In a Friday night showdown, the Phoenix Suns will host the San Antonio Spurs tonight at PHX Arena. Both of these squads have been eliminated from postseason consideration, so the strategies and lineups in this game will be interesting. 

The Suns are 35-45 entering today and have already been officially eliminated from the postseason. As such, this is the last week of basketball for Phoenix this season after losing eight in a row entering today. 

At 33-47, the Spurs are two spots below the Suns in the Western Conference standings and have lost eight of their last 10. Even then, they got a huge win over the Golden State Warriors last time they took the floor and will have some momentum coming into this game.

The 2024-25 campaign has gone as bad as it could have for Phoenix, completely missing the postseason despite having championship aspirations entering the season. While there have been injuries throughout the season for the Suns, the big three of Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal just couldn’t get it done. San Antonio didn’t have nearly as high of expectations this season, but still had an impressive run before both Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox went down with season-ending injuries. 

Following this contest, the Spurs will play their last game of the season back at home against the Toronto Raptors, which will put an end to this chapter of San Antonio basketball before looking to improve the roster this summer and make a big leap next season. The Suns’ final contest of the 2024-25 campaign will be against the Sacramento Kings on the road Sunday night, ahead of significant change that is expected this offseason in Phoenix.
