The Dallas Mavericks are trying to end a four-game losing streak when they host their in-state rival the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night. The first three losses in this streak were understandable coming against Phoenix, Denver and Golden State. The Mavericks’ last loss was harder to justify dropping to the Utah Jazz 115-113 on Thursday. It was just the first home win for the Jazz with Utah off to a 3-8 start. Luka Doncic did everything he could to will Dallas to victory with 37 points but the Mavs just came up short. The game was sealed when John Collins absolutely threw down a clutch dunk with just 6.4 seconds remaining to finish the game with 28 points which led the Jazz. Naji Marshall had a chance to win the game but missed a three-pointer as the clock expired. Dallas has already beat San Antonio at home this season by the tune of 120-109 just a couple of weeks ago. The Mavericks will be the heavy 10.5-point favorite at home tonight.

The Spurs are coming off a 120-115 loss against the Los Angeles Lakers at home in NBA Cup – Group Play on Friday. Victor Wembanyama scored 28 points to lead the team but it wasn’t enough to overcome the 40-piece from Anthony Davis or the triple-double by LeBron James. The Lakers are the defending NBA Cup champions and have still yet to lose a game in this new tournament. San Antonio in the meantime will try to get back to .500 with a win tonight.
