The Los Angeles Clippers try to find their new identity after a busy trade deadline when they tip-off against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday. The Clippers traded away James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Darius Garland. His Clippers debut is uncertain because Garland is recovering from a right toe sprain, with an estimated return of Feb. 10 against the Houston Rockets. LA is still three games below .500. The Clippers also traded away impact center Ivica Zubac to the Indiana Pacers. The Clippers are 10th in the Western Conference standings even though they’ve gone on a great run over the last month. Minnesota is 11 games over .500, sixth in the conference, only a game behind the Los Angeles Lakers.

Minnesota leads the season series 1-0 after a close 109-106 victory at home in the first week of December. Naz Reid sank a go-ahead three-pointer with just 13 seconds left in regulation, while Minnesota was led by Jaden McDaniels with 27 points.

The Timberwolves are coming off a surprising upset at home, losing to the New Orleans Pelicans 119-115 on Friday. Minnesota led by as much as 18 in the second half, but the Pelicans were able to pull off the comeback. At its peak in the third quarter, Minnesota had a 98.1 percent chance to win. Saaddiq Bay led the comeback with 30 points and he hit two clutch free throws with just 10.8 seconds left in regulation to shock the home crowd. The loss overshadowed a game-high 35 points from Anthony Edwards. Julius Randle added 24 points, and Rudy Gobert added 12 points with 16 rebounds.

LA is also coming off a close game, but the Clippers won their’s on Friday, beating the Sacramento Kings on the road, 114-111. Leonard led the club with 31 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. The loss was the 11th in a row for the struggling Kings, who now have the worst record in all of the NBA. John Collins scored 22 points, while Brook Lopez and Kris Dunn both scored 15 points to help LA avoid a three-game losing streak. The Clippers will have to lean on Leonard even more tonight against a much more talented opponent on the road.
