This season the All-Star duo of Brunson and Towns have elevated New York into title contention. Brunson is averaging a career-high 7.5 assists per game taking on more of a distributor role than he ever has in his career. When Brunson dishes out at least nine assists this season New York is 14-4 overall.

In the season-opener Brunson finished with just 22 points and two assists, his season-low in assists. Towns had a very modest start to his New York tenure as he tried to find his role. Since then Towns has been dominant averaging 24.6 points and 13.8 rebounds per game.

New York has ironed out the kinks of a new-look roster. They have the fourth-highest scoring offense (117.9 points per game) and eighth-best defense (111.4 points allowed per game) in the league, which is a recipe to contend for a championship.
