NBA Summer League play opens in Salt Lake City when the Thunder and Jazz play on Tuesday.
The Oklahoma City Thunder take to the floor for the first of three games this week. They will have the No. 2 overall pick Chet Holmgren, along with Ousmane Dieng and Jalen Williams playing. All went in the Top 12 in last month’s NBA Draft. Tonight, the future core of the Thunder roster will face the Jazz, who despite not having a draft pick, did acquire center Kofi Cockburn from the University of Illinois.

Alongside the four Thunder draft picks will be a handful of young players who saw significant minutes in Aaron Wiggins, Lindy Waters III, Alex Pokusevski, and Josh Giddey. Giddey won the Western Conference Rookie of the Month award four times last season, but missed most of the second half of the season with a hip injury.
Holmgren averaged 14.1 points per game as a true freshman at Gonzaga last season. He was the 2022 West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year for the Bulldogs.
The Jamaican born Cockburn was a star in his three years with the Illini and averaged 20.9 points per game, garnering him a spot as a consensus first-team All-American. The 22-year-old could well be in line to be the starting center for the Jazz this season with the departure of Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves via a trade last week.
These teams will each play the Memphis Grizzlies and Philadelphia 76ers over the next two days in a six-game round robin summer showcase before moving on to the NBA 2K23 Summer League in Last Vegas this weekend.
