No. 1 Alabama comes off its epic win over Georgia with a road game against Vanderbilt on Saturday.

There’s a new top-ranked team in college football entering Week 6. No. 1 Alabama (4-0, 1-0 SEC) now has that crown after last week’s 41-34 win over then-No. 2 Georgia. It was a statement game for the Tide – the first under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. It also truly kicked off a Heisman Trophy push for redshirt junior quarterback Jalen Milroe, who completed 27 of his 33 passes for 374 yards and two touchdowns while adding another 117 yards and two more scores on the ground. Coming off that emotional win, Alabama can’t afford to fall into a trap game as they get back on the field this weekend in SEC play, on the road at FirstBank Stadium against Vanderbilt (2-2, 0-1 SEC).

Vanderbilt comes in with some momentum of its own. Although the Commadores didn’t win last week they took a top-10 ranked Missouri team to overtime, in a 30-27 game. Transfer quarterback Diego Pavia was excellent in that game throwing for 178 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions, while also leading the team in rushing with 84 yards.

That was Vanderbilt’s second overtime game of the year – the Commodores beat Virginia Tech 34-27 in OT in their opener. Their other win was 55-0 over FCS Alcorn State the next week.

These teams last met in 2022, in Tuscaloosa. Alabama won that game 55-3. The last meeting in Nashville was in 2017, which was a 59-0 win for the Tide.
