Arkansas visits Auburn on Saturday with both teams opening SEC play.

SEC play continues to ramp up this weekend, and in the middle window of the Saturday slate two more schools will play their first conference game of the year when Arkansas (2-1, 0-0 SEC) visits Auburn (2-1, 0-0 SEC) at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Auburn has dominated this series as of late, with seven wins in the last eight years. That includes a 48-3 victory last year in Fayetteville. However the Razorbacks won the last game in Auburn, picking up a 41-27 win in 2022. Auburn leads the all-time series 20 to 12 with one tie. All but one of those meetings – an Auburn in in 1984 – have occurred since Arkansas joined the SEC in 1992.

Auburn is coming into this game one week removed from a quarterback change. After losing to Cal at home 21-14 two weeks ago, head coach Hugh Freeze made the call to bench senior Payton Thorne – who started 12 games last year – in favor of redshirt freshman Hank Brown. Brown had a successful debut last week against New Mexico, completing 17 of his 25 passes for 235 yards and four touchdowns and no interceptions. Auburn won the game 45-19.

A strong running game is always helpful for a young quarterback, and Auburn certainly brings that element to the table. Senior running back Jarquez Hunter – who was named All-SEC first team in the preseason – has played up to expectations. Through three games he’s run for 273 total yards at 7.6 yards per carry.

On the other side, Arkansas is coming off of a 37-27 win over UAB last week. They ran the ball well too, as senior Ja’Quinden Jackson had 147 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
