Boston College had two weeks to regroup after its first conference loss of 2024. Now, the Eagles try to get back on the right track.

Two teams still chasing a spot in the ACC title game square off Thursday night in Blacksburg, when Boston College (4-2, 1-1 ACC) visits Virginia Tech (3-3, 1-1 ACC) at Lane Stadium. There are still a handful of teams without an ACC loss this year, but given how competitive the conference has been this year any one-loss teams – including these two – should still be considered very much in the mix.

Both teams come into this game off a bye week. For Boston College, that meant two weeks to figure out what went wrong after the team’s last visit to the state of Virginia. That was for the Eagles’ last game when they visited UVA in their first conference game since the opener against Florida State. Bill O’Brien’s team dropped that game 24-14, with turnovers becoming a major problem. Quarterback Thomas Castellanos threw two interceptions, and the Eagles lost a fumble as well.

Virginia Tech spent the last two weeks sitting on a win, after heading all the way across the country and blowing out Stanford 31-7 in Palo Alto. The Hokies’ pass rush made its presence felt in that game recording five sacks – with all five coming from five different players.

Thursday night will be the 32nd all-time meeting in the rivalry between the Eagles and Hokies, which dates back to 1993. Virginia Tech has dominated to this point going 21-11 head-to-head. That includes back-to-back wins in the last two meetings with a 48-22 win last year in Chestnut Hill. The Eagles are trying to pick up their first win in Blacksburg since 2018.
