All eyes of the college football world will be on Tuscaloosa Saturday night, when No. 2 Georgia visits No. 4 Alabama.
In what’s certainly the biggest game of the college football season so far this year – and what may very well end up being the biggest game of the entire regular season – No. 2 Georgia (3-0, 1-0 SEC) visits No. 4 Alabama (3-0, 0-0 SEC) on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. While these teams have been regular competitors in recent years both in the SEC championship and College Football Playoffs, this will be the first time they meet in the regular season since 2020 and just the second time they’ve done so since 2008. The most recent meeting between the teams was in last year’s SEC Championship Game. Alabama beat then-No. 1 unbeaten Georgia 27-24, keeping the Bulldogs from the College Football Playoff and preventing a shot at a National Championship three-peat.

Prior to that they met in the 2022 College Football Playoff, with Georgia knocking off then-No. 1 Alabama 33-18 on the way to a National Championship. That game is Georgia’s only win over Alabama since 2007 (the Bulldogs are 1-8 against the Tide since).
Of course, a lot has changed even since the last matchup. Most notably, this will be the first time the teams meet since Nick Saban retired. Saban was replaced by former Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer. Now, instead of going against his former boss in Saban, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart will be tasked with cracking one of the top offensive minds in the game.
