It’s been quite the start to the season for Louisiana-Monroe (3-1, 1-0 Sun Belt), after the Warhawks were picked to finish dead last in the Sun Belt Conference in the preseason poll. In the first season under new head coach Bryan Vincent, ULM is 3-1 with its only loss coming against a then-top-ranked Texas team. That came after the Warhawks won their first two games of the year – against Jackson State and UAB – by multi-score margins. Last week the Warhawks picked up their first conference win of the year, going on the road and beating defending conference champion Troy 13-9. This week ULM plays its first home conference game of the year, hosting unbeaten James Madison (4-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) on Saturday at Malone Stadium.

James Madison has taken care of business on its side of things. Last year the Dukes looked like a potential conference champion, but weren’t eligible to play in the Sun Belt Championship having just transitioned from the FCS level. This year they’ve made a case so far they should get that championship appearance after all, and are the only Sun Belt team that is unbeaten to this point.

JMU’s most notable win came two weeks ago, when the Dukes went on the road and put up 70 points against a Power Five school in a 70-50 win over North Carolina. They followed that up last week by beating Ball State 63-7.
