Lafayette and Monmouth will meet for the sixth time in West Long Branch on Saturday.
After both teams fell in their season openers on the road last weekend, Monmouth welcomes Lafayette to Kessler Stadium for the Hawks’ home opener in West Long Branch on Saturday afternoon.
Monmouth opened the season with a disappointing double-digit loss on the road at Easern Washington, the first-ever matchup between the Hawks and Eastern Washington. Lafayette, on the other hand, also lost its season-opener against Buffalo on the road last weekend. This will mark the sixth meeting between these two teams, with Monmouth holding a slim 3-2 advantage in the first five games. Last season, Lafayette got its second win in the series with a 28-20 victory.

Most recently, Monmouth fell in its season-opener to Eastern Washington by a final score of 42-27 in Cheney last weekend. Hawks quarterback Derek Robertson threw for 390 yards and three touchdowns in his debut as the starter, but a late interception proved costly. TJ Speight led the Hawks with five catches for 97 receiving yards in the loss.
As for Lafayette, the Leopards offense struggled in a 30-13 loss to Buffalo at UB Stadium last Thursday night. Junior quarterback Dean DeNobile threw for 162 yards and a touchdown, but also tossed two interceptions and was sacked three times. The Leopards managed just 223 total yards of offense.
