The late window in college football’s Saturday night slate includes a very important mid-season matchup in the Sun Belt conference. Georgia Southern (3-2, 1-0 Sun Belt) is hosting Marshall (3-2, 0-1 Sun Belt) at Allen E. Paulson Stadium, in a matchup of the only two teams left without a conference loss in the Sun Belt’s East Division. Whichever team wins this game will have the inside track and control its own destiny for a path to the Sun Belt Championship Game at the end of the season.

Both teams come into this game after big wins. Marshall played last week and had a very convincing win at home over App State by a final score of 52-37. Although it was a high-scoring game for the offense (the 52 points are a season-high for the Thundering Herd) it was Marshall’s defense that came up big with two interceptions – including a pick-six from cornerback J’Coryan Anderson – and a forced fumble.

Georgia State is coming off of a bye week, but before that the Eagles took down rival Georgia State 38-21 for their first conference win of the year. Both of the Eagles’ top running backs had monster performances, with Jalen White rushing for 114 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, and OJ Arnold adding 110 yards and another two touchdowns on 11 carries of his own. The Eagles rushed for a total of 261 yards for the game.
