Marshall and Louisiana meet at Cajun Field in Lafayette with the Sun Belt title on the line Saturday night as Championship Weekend wraps up.
In the late window of Championship Saturday, the Sun Belt title is up for grabs. In this on-campus Conference Championship, East Division champion Marshall (9-3, 7-1 Sun Belt) visits West Division champion Louisiana (10-2, 7-1 Sun Belt). For Louisiana, this is a record fifth trip to the conference championship game since the Sun Belt began playing a conference championship in 2018. The Rajin’ Cajuns are 1-2 in their previous games with a win in 2021 and losses in 2018 and 2019. The 2020 game was canceled due to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Marshall is making its first-ever appearance in the game after joining the conference in 2022. The Thundering Herd’s last conference championship came in 2014 as a member of C-USA.
Louisiana comes into this game having won seven of its last nine game sin the regular season. That includes two wins in a row to close things out – a 51-30 defeat of Troy two weeks ago and then a 37-23 win over rival ULM last week.
Meanwhile, Marshall comes in as the winner of six in a row. That includes last week when the Thundering Herd needed two overtimes to get past James Madison in a 35-33 final.
These two teams did not play during the regular season this year – or last year for that matter. They’ve met just twice in the history of the programs, with Louisiana winning both games in 2021 and 2022.
