It’s Egg Bowl time in the Magnolia State. On Friday night, Mississippi State (2-9, 0-7 SEC) visits No. 15 Ole Miss (8-3, 4-3 Ole Miss) at Vaught Hemingway Stadium for the 121st playing of the in-state rivalry with the Golden Egg Trophy on the line. Ole Miss leads the all-time series 65 to 46 with six ties. Ole Miss picked up the win last year, beating the Bulldogs 17-7. That added to what is now a three-year trend of the road team winning the matchup. In fact, Ole Miss has won in Oxford just twice in the last 10 years – in 2014 and 2020.

Last year, the ground game was key in Ole Miss’ win in the Egg Bowl. The Rebels put up 211 yards on the ground, while holding the Bulldogs to 96.

Ole Miss comes in trying to bounce back from a tough loss last week on the road at Florida. The Rebels return home trying to keep a chance to have their third 10-win season in four years, which they would have with a win over the Bulldogs and then a win in a bowl game.

Meanwhile, Mississippi State is trying to use a win over its in-state rival to avoid its first season without a win in conference play since 2002. Last time out the Bulldogs were on the road, falling 39-20 to Missouri last week.
