North Texas visits UTSA on Friday night in an AAC matchup between in-state Texas opponents.

In AAC play on Friday night, UTSA (4-5, 2-3 AAC) hosts North Texas (5-4, 2-3 AAC) at the Alamodome. This will be the 13th playing of the Battle of the Birds, with UTSA leading the all-time series 7-5. The Roadrunners have won each of the last three games, including a 37-29 win last year in Denton. A win in this game would give them the longest winning streak for either team in the series (North Texas won three in a row from 2017 to 2019). North Texas hasn’t won in San Antonio since 2018, which remains the program’s only win in the Alamodome.

North Texas is still chasing that elusive sixth win, with another chance to become bowl eligible in this game. After starting the season 5-1 the Mean Green have lost three games in a row. All three have been close. The stretch started with a 52-44 road loss to Memphis, following by a 45-37 loss at home to No. 25 Tulane. Last week, the Mean Green hosted No. 16 Army, and fell 14-3.

On the other side is a UTSA team that just beat Memphis in a shootout two weeks ago (the Roadrunners had a bye last week). In the 44-36 win, UTSA quarterback Owen McCown threw for 280 yards and four touchdowns. The Roadrunners now need to win two of their last three games – including this one – to become bowl eligible for the fifth year in arow and avoid their first losing season since 2019.
