Northern Illinois and NC State are both looking to bounce back from losses when these teams meet Saturday in Raleigh, NC.
NC State looks to keep its undefeated 2-0 record at home when the Wolfpack host Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon. NC State is 2-2 overall though and are trying to avoid losing back-to-back games. This game doesn’t get much easier as Northern Illinois beat No. 5 Notre Dame. Shockingly though, the Huskies couldn’t keep that momentum rolling in their last game as they dropped to Buffalo 23-20 in overtime. It came down to a 37-yard field goal from Buffalo’s Upton Bellenfant against the No. 23 NIU Huskies. Northern Illinois was looking pretty at the half leading 14-3. But the Huskies were shutout in the third and only scored six points in the fourth. Northern Illinois had an interception late and allowed Buffalo to kick a go-ahead field goal with just 3:28 to play. The Huskies didn’t back down though and drove down 66 yards on 13 plays culminating in a 27-yard field goal. That sent the game to overtime, but it the extra quarter didn’t start the way NIU wanted almost immediately. Buffalo blocked the Huskies’ field goal attempt on the first overtime drive and it was essentially game over from there. Northern Illinois will have to be much more consistent through the second half to get back on track and upset NC State at on the road.

NC State are -7.5 point favorites at home today. The Wolfpack struggled on defense in their last game when they dropped 59-34 last week in their ACC opener. The game was well over at halftime when the Tigers held a 45-7 lead. Clemson scored on every one of their drives except one in the first half. NC State showed some resilience in the second half by turning up their offense but it was too little, too late by then. Expect this game to be much closer especially with the Wolfpack coming home.
