Nebraska is off to a great start moving into the Top 25 as the Huskers host Northern Iowa on Saturday.
Something feels different about this Nebraska team. There have been a lot of dashed hopes and promises of the better part of the last decade but this is a team the Husker faithful can put stock in again. That has a lot to do with the composure of freshman quarterback Dylan Raiola and a defense that so far has gotten back to it’s tough Blackshirts reputation. A lot of this was shot out of a cannon when Nebraska dominated Colorado at home after the Buffs had beat them in three previous matchups. Nebraska was up 28-0 at the half against Deion Sanders‘ Buffs highlighted by an incredible pick-6 by Tommi Hill in the first quarter.

When it looked like Nebraska’s struggles were going to happen all over again and somehow let their lead slip away against Colorado like it has in the past, the Huskers stayed calm. The Huskers didn’t score in the second half mostly caught up in penalties but they kept their cool and only allowed 10 points and never let this Shedeur Sanders led offense to get going by dominating the line up front. Nebraska is now ranked No. 23 for its efforts and are 32.5-point favorites against Northern Iowa.
The Panthers, while big underdogs, should not be underestimated either as Northern Iowa has opened the season 2-0 as well. UNI beat St. Thomas on the road last week 17-10 to stay undefeated. It was Amauri Pesek-Hickson who got the go-ahead touchdown for Northern Iowa after a fumble recovery. This is a much different matchup against a storied franchise but the Panthers have nothing to lose so expect them to be scrapy.
