Arkansas tries to avoid losing three games in a row early Saturday afternoon, but it will have a steep hill to climb when it hosts No. 22 Notre Dame. The Razorbacks are 2-2 on the season now, after dropping its last two contests against Ole Miss and Memphis. Arkansas won its first two games easily, but in the last two games it has narrowly lost each by one score. Notre Dame meanwhile is coming off its first win of the season against in-state rival Purdue. The Fighting Irish don’t want to hear about the Razorbacks’ one-score woes. Notre Dame lost its first two games of the season against very difficult opponents, in Miami and Texas A&M. Note Dame lost those matchups by a combined four points. Notre Dame should be the favorite today with a -4.5-point spread on the road, but it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect a high-scoring and close game between these non-conference opponents.

After nail-biting back-and-forth games, Notre Dame fans were refreshed last week when it beat the Boilermakers comfortably 56-30. With the victory, Notre Dame improved from No. 24 to No. 22. Jadarian Price took the game into his own hands by scoring four touchdowns on the day. None were bigger than his 100-yard kickoff return, as the Irish beat Purdue for the 10th straight time. The game was relatively close at half with Notre Dame leading 35-23 at half, but the Fighting Irish turned on the afterburners in the third quarter with three straight touchdowns to pull away. Notre Dame settled down on defense as well, only giving up a touchdown late in the fourth quarter when the game was out of hand. Still, Notre Dame beat Purdue 66-7 last season. The Razorbacks are going to be a tougher challenge, so the Irish defense will need to clamp down quicker.

Arkansas is coming off a heartbreaking loss, dropping to Memphis 32-31 last week. Sutton Smith was just too much for the Razorbacks defense, going for 147 rushing yards for the Tigers. The dagger was a 64-yard run with just 4:51 left in the game to put Memphis up for good. Arkansas was up 31-20 late in the third quarter, but it was shutout in the fourth. The Razorbacks looked like they were going to make a comeback of their own, but Mike Washington Jr. fumbled well into Memphis territory which sealed Arkansas’ fate. If the Razorbacks couldn’t afford to let their foot up off the pedal against Memphis, they’re certainly not going to get away with it against the Irish.
