Somebody is leaving Kelly/Shorts Stadium with their first conference loss this Saturday, with Ohio (3-2, 1-0 MAC) hosting Central Michigan (3-2, 1-0 MAC) in MAC conference action. Both of these teams come in rested off a bye. These team comes in trying to re-write preseason narratives. Ohio was picked to finish fifth in the conference in the MAC preseason coaches poll, while Central Michigan was picked to finish eighth. Ohio finished 6-2 in conference play last year, while Central Michigan was 3-5.

For the Bobcats, the last time out was the conference opener two weeks ago at Akron in an in-state matchup. Ohio won that game relatively comfortably, 30-10. Quarterback Parker Navarro dominated that game throwing for 204 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions, while also leading the team with 113 rushing yards and another score. Navarro was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week for that effort.
Central Michigan’s most recent game was in non-conference action, at home hosting San Diego State. The Chippewas won that game 22-21 on a walk-off 46-yard field goal from kicker Tristan Mattson, who was named the conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week. The week before the Chips won another close game at home, beating Bowling Green 37-34 in their conference opener.
In the meeting between Ohio and Central Michigan last year, the Bobcats protected their home field with a 34-20 win. Prior to that, Central Michigan had won six head-to-head matchups in a row. The Chippewas lead the all-time series 27-6 with two ties.
