The best team in college football, the Ohio State Buckeyes, will take the field on Saturday for the annual Spring Game.

The Ohio State Buckeyes will host a spring football game between themselves on Saturday afternoon, airing on Big Ten Network. They closed out their 2024 season on top of the college football world with a College Football Playoff championship for the first time the field has been expanded to 12 teams. They took out Nico Iamaleava and Tennessee, Dillon Gabriel and Oregon, Quinn Ewers and Texas, and Riley Leonard and Notre Dame on their way to that championship run. Now, it’s back to where it began last year, spring practices.

Ohio State will welcome the No. 5 ranked recruiting class in the country, according to 247 Sports. They already have arguably the best receiver in the nation in Jeremiah Smith. In that top-ranked class are three five-star recruits which we will see for the first time, including QB Tavien St. Clair, CB Devin Sanchez, and WR Quincy Porter.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, the format for the game will remain the same as Ryan Day established last year. “When the annual intrasquad scrimmage begins with the first-team offense against the first-team defense, the Buckeyes will be in “thud” instead of full contact. The pace allows defensive players to wrap up the ball carriers, but not bring them to the turf.

As the Buckeyes move further down the depth chart to rotate more inexperienced players, they will transition to live tackling, a format that mirrors the script from recent years.” When the team transitions to live tackling, everyone will be available to hit with the exception of all quarterbacks, who will still be wrapped up.

Regional restrictions may apply.
