No. 5 seed Texas meets No. 8 seed Ohio State in the CFP semifinals at the Cotton Bowl on Friday night.

With the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff reaching the semifinals, No. 5 seed Texas squares off against No. 8 seed Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday night. After upsetting top-seeded Oregon and a victory overNo. 9 seed Tennessee, Ohio State enters the semifinals with a 12-2 overall record. The Buckeyes lost their regular-season finale to unranked Michigan, but quickly rallied to win its first two games in the CFP to reach the semifinals. Texas, on the other hand, won games over No. 12 Clemson and No. 4 Arizona State to reach the Cotton Bowl with a 13-2 record. This is the fourth matchup between these two teams and the first since the 2009 season.

Most recently, Ohio State shocked the college football world with a 41-21 victory over No. 1 seed Oregon in the Rose Bowl earlier this month. The Buckeyes scored 34 points in the first half, with freshman sensation Jeremiah Smith leading the way with seven catches for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Ohio State quarterback Will Howard finished the game with 319 passing yards and three scores, with the other going to wideout Emeka Egbuka. 

As for Texas, the Longhorns won a double overtime thriller by a final score of 39-31 over Arizona State in the Peach Bowl earlier this month. The Sun Devils erased a 24-8 lead in the second half to eventually force overtime, but Gunner Helm caught the game-winning touchdown pass from Quinn Ewers in the second overtime period. 

Texas and Ohio State will now play for a trip to the national championship on Friday night.
