With the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff reaching the semifinals, No. 6 seed Penn State squares off against No. 7 seed Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl on Thursday night. After both teams pulled off upset over higher seeds in the quarterfinals, Penn State goes for its third-straight win against the Irish in Thursday’s semifinals. The Nittany Lions are an outstanding 13-2 overall with wins over No. 11 SMU and No. 3 Boise State in the palyoff. Notre Dame, on the other hand, has won 12-straight games since losing to Northern Illinois early in the season. The Irish are now 13-1 overall with wins over No. 10 Indiana and No. 2 Georgia in the playoff. This is the first matchup between these two teams since the 2007 season.

Most recently, Notre Dame pulled off a massive upset over No. 2 Georgia in the Sugar Bowl by a final score of 23-10 on Jan 2. The Irish defense was oustanding, holding Georgia to 292 total yards of offense while limiting the Bulldogs to 62 rushing yards. Notre Dame opened up a 13-3 lead with a field goal, forced fumble and a touchdown off the Georgia giveaway. 

As for Penn State, the Nittany Lions dominated No. 3 seed Boise State in a 31-14 victory in the Fiesta Bowl earlier this month. Penn State running backs Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton combined for 221 rushing yards while the Lions defense forced four turnovers in the win. 

No. 6 seed Penn State will face off against No. 7 seed Notre Dame in Miami on Thursday night.
