Two of the ACC’s new teams square off on Saturday night, when No. 21 SMU visits Stanford.
Two games into its first ACC season, No. 21 SMU (5-1, 2-0) is still unbeaten in conference play. The Mustangs are one of four teams in the ACC still without a conference loss, putting them squarely in the mix for an ACC Championship Game appearance. With that, they’re the most successful of the ACC’s three new teams to this point this season. Coming off of a bye week, their next game comes against another new ACC team when they visit Stanford (2-4, 1-2 ACC) Saturday night at Stanford Stadium.

Last time out, Stanford was on the road against a then-ranked Louisville team. The Mustangs won a back-and-forth game 34-27, scoring the game-winning touchdown with 6:39 to go in the game. Quarterback Kevin Jennings led the way for SMU both through the air and on the ground. He completed 21 of his 27 passes for 281 yards, while rushing for 113 yards and a touchdown on just 10 carries.
Stanford was on the road last weekend, taking on No. 12 Notre Dame. They lost that one 49-7.
This is the first time SMU and Stanford are meeting as conference foes, and the second time they’re meeting overall. The previous meeting came all the way back in the 1936 Rose Bowl, which Stanford won 7-0.
Kickoff from Stanford Stadium on Saturday is set for 8:00 p.m. ET. ACC Network will have the broadcast of the game, with Wes Durham and Tom Luginbill on the call.
