With both teams looking to bounce back from tough losses a week ago, Alabama A&M welcomes SWAC rival Southern to Crews Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Despite losing last week to Florida A&M, Southern is still in position to contend for the SWAC title with a 4-4 overall record and a 3-1 conference mark. The Jaguars are below .500 on the road, though, with a 2-3 record away from home. Alabama A&M, on the other hand, dropped to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play with a loss last week to Alabama State. The Bulldogs are a perfect 3-0 at home this season compared to 0-2 on the road. Southern has won eight straight games over Alabama A&M, including a 20-10 victory last season.

Most recently, Southern’s offense struggled in a 24-6 loss to Florida A&M in Tallahassee last week. The Jaguars were only down 7-3 at halftime, but couldn’t generate much offense with QB Noah Bodden going 8-of-18 for 45 passing yards in the loss. Southern’s 83 passing yards paled in comparison to FAMU’s 278 yards through the air in the loss.
As for Alabama A&M, the Bulldogs rallied late but couldn’t overcome a big deficit in a 27-19 loss to Alabama State in the 83rd annual Magic City Classic. Alabama State scored 13 of its 17 points off turnovers, but the Bulldogs nearly overcame a 17-3 halftime deficit. A&M finished the game with 370 total yards of offense, including 309 passing yards.
