Stanford goes for back-to-back conference wins when it travels to take on Virginia in ACC play on Saturday.

Virginia goes for its first win against a conference opponent this season, when it hosts Stanford on Saturday night. The Cavaliers only have one loss this season, and it was by four points against their ACC rival in NC State as the Wolfpack are still undefeated. Virginia responded as expected last week beating William & Mary by a 55-16 final at home last week. The Cavaliers are in their fourth season under head coach John Rudzinski. Virginia has largely improved every year under Rudzinski, but this may be the year where the Cavs expect winning results. Virginia is coming off a 5-7 season in 2024, and haven’t made a bowl game in its three previous seasons. Stanford’s season got off to a rocky start losing its first two games against BYU and Hawaii, but the Cardinal bounced back nicely winning its first ACC game last week 30-20 against Boston College. Virginia will be the favorite at home here tonight, with a -15.5-point spread on Saturday.

Virginia’s win was never really in doubt last week against William & Mary, as it got out to a 21-0 before the Tribe got on the board. Virginia dominated with 728 yards compared to 263 for its opponent. The more than 700 yards was a school record for the Cavaliers. Harrison Waylee was a huge reason Virginia dominated as he rushed for 151 yards on 10 carries, and he reached the end zone on three occasions. That included his biggest rush of his career when Waylee went off for a 97-yard run which was also a school record. It was a great ramp up game for a conference rival, but the Cardinal will be a much higher caliber opponent.

Stanford also won its last game on the prowess of its rushing attack as well beating Boston College. RB Micah Ford went off for a career-high 157 yards with a score against the Eagles. It was interim head coach Frank Reich’s first collegiate win. Reich was the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers in the NFL. Reich was hired after Stanford let Troy Taylor go in March following back-to-back 3–9 seasons. This is going to be a great conference game, featuring two dominant backfields.
