Iowa looks for a big bounce back after dropping to their in-state rival last week when they take on Troy for Week 3. The Hawkeyes lost in a nail-biter 20-19 against Iowa State at home after opening the season with a 40-0 win over Illinois State. Iowa was ranked No. 21 before losing to the Cyclones last week. The Hawkeyes were leading 13-0 in a dominating defensive first half but they kept letting Iowa State creep back in the second. The Hawkeyes were unable to score in the fourth quarter to allow the Cyclones to complete the comeback. Iowa only put up 107 yards in the second compared to Iowa State’s 260. A more consistent game throughout is a must against Troy today. Despite the loss, Kaleb Johnson had a great day on the ground rushing for 187 yards and two touchdowns. Iowa is the heavy favorite this afternoon with a 22.5-point spread over Troy.

Troy is looking for its first win of the season. After a very close 28-26 opener against Nevada at home, Troy could not catch up to Memphis in last week’s game. Troy tied the game at seven to open the second half but then Memphis scored 24 unanswered points. Quarterback Goose Crowder scored an 11-yard touchdown to tie the game for Troy but he suffered a game-ending injury. Matthew Caldwell took over for Crowder and passed for 113 yards and rushed for a touchdown. Even if Crowder got the start today, this is a long uphill battle against a power-conference opponent on the road with a staunch defense.
