Week 8 begins early in the Sun Belt, with Troy visiting South Alabama at Hancock Whitney Stadium on Tuesday night.
The first kickoff of Week 8 of the 2024 college football season takes place in the Gateway to the Gulf. On Tuesday night, in-state foes face off in conference action with Troy (1-5, 0-2 Sun Belt) visiting South Alabama (2-4, 1-1 Sun Belt) at Hancock Whitney Stadium for Sun Belt play in Mobile, Alabama. This in-state rivalry is known as the ‘Battle of the Belt’ with the winning team getting a professional wrestling-style belt after the game. It’s a relatively newer rivalry with South Alabama not adding football until 2009, and the teams not playing for the first time until 2012. The Belt was introduced in 2015.

Troy leads the all-time series 9-3, and is 7-2 with the belt on the line. The Trojans have won six games in a row in the series, dating back to 2018. South Alabama has won in Mobile just once in 2014, with the Jaguars’ other two wins in the series coming on the road.
Last year, Troy picked up a 28-10 win. The Trojans dominated that game on both sides of the ball more than the score indicates. They outgained the Jaguars 405-252, and held South Alabama without a first down conversion on 10 third down attempts.
Both of these teams lost last timeout. Troy fell to Texas State 38-17 last Thursday, and South Alabama lost 18-16 at Arkansas State last Saturday.
Kickoff for this one is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Coverage can be found on ESPN 2.
