No. 21 Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty is off to a historic start this season. Can he keep it up against Utah State on Saturday?

No. 21 Boise State (3-1, 0-0 Mountain West) is ranked for the first time since 2020, and off to a strong start in the first full season under head coach Spencer Danielson. That’s due in large part to junior running back Ashton Jeanty, who is off to an incredible pace to start the season. Through four games, Jeanty has run for 845 yards on 10.3 yards per carry, with 13 touchdowns. All three of those numbers lead the nation by significant margins, and realistically could be even higher if Jeanty played in the second half of a blowout win over Portland State two weeks ago (he had 127 yards on 11 carries in the first half, without a touchdown). Jeanty has become must-watch TV, and this week he and the Broncos are back on on Saturday, when they host Utah State (1-3, 0-0 Mountain west) in the first conference game of the year for both teams.

Jeanty could be in for a big game against this Utah State team. The Aggies are allowing 5.1 yards per carry this season and 196.8 rushing yards per game – both of which rank 11th out of 12 teams in the Mountain West.

Last week was arguably Jeanty’s most impressive game of the season. Facing Washington state, he carried the ball 26 times for 259 yards and four touchdowns. Prior to that game the Cougars were allowing just 151.2 yards per game total.
