New Mexico held on for its fourth win last week against Nevada, despite not scoring in the final quarter to send the Wolf Pack to a 1-6 record and still searching for their first win in the Mountain West. The Lobos had a two-head monster at the running back position against Nevada. D.J. McKinney rushed for two touchdowns, while Scottre Humphrey added another score to give Nevada its fifth loss in a row. Jack Layne threw for 138 yards with no touchdowns but also no interceptions. It will be a key strategy to win back-to-back games for the Lobos. New Mexico still turned it over twice in the narrow win over Nevada. The Wolf Pack nailed a field goal early in the fourth quarter to get within two, but it couldn’t muster any more offense against a stout defensive performance from the Lobos. That came after giving up a combined 76 points against Boise State and San Jose State in New Mexico’s two previous losses.

The Aggies relied on QB Bryson Barnes to elevate Utah State over the Spartans. Barnes threw for 326 yards with a touchdown threw the air and with his legs. San Jose State gained an early lead by one point in the fourth quarter. But Utah State was able to persevere and kick two field goals to give the Aggies the cushion they’d need to win the game. If Barnes is able to replicate that performance, and Utah State wins the turnover battle, that will be the key to the road upset today.
