Future Pac-12 opponents meet in a non-conference setting on Saturday with Washington State visiting Fresno State.
On Saturday, Washington State (4-1, 0-0 Pac-12) visits Fresno State (3-2, 1-1 Mountain West) in a non-conference matchup at Valley Children’s Stadium. While this is a non-conference matchup, the stage is set for these two teams to start facing off regularly in just a few years. Fresno State will be one of the Mountain West schools joining the Pac-12 in 2026, which was announced earlier this year. The two teams certainly could use the familiarity – they last met in the LA Bowl in 2022, but before that hadn’t played since 1994. That bowl matchup was just the fifth game they’ve ever played against each other. Fresno State took that one 29-6 but Washington State leads the all-time series 3-2.

Both of these teams are coming off a bye week, with losses the week prior. For Washington State that was the first loss of the year, as the Cougars fell 45-24 on the road against No. 25 Boise State. Prior to that the Cougars had gotten off to a 4-0 start including wins over Texas Tech and in-state rival Washington. They also played a 54-52 overtime thriller against San Jose State.
Fresno State’s last game was on the road at UNLV, which the Bulldogs lost 59-14. That was one of their lowest-scoring games of the year, as they’ve had an explosive passing attack for most of the season. Quarterback Emmett Brown leads the Mountain West conference with 1,460 passing yards and 15 touchdowns through five games.
