Yale and Penn square off on Friday night, as both teams go for their first conference win of the season in the Ivy League.

Prior to conference play, both Yale (3-2, 0-2 Ivy League) and Penn (2-3, 0-2 Ivy League) were both rolling to start the season. Yale won all three of its non-conference games against Holy Cross, Central Connecticut, and Lehigh, while Penn beat Bucknell and Colgate after a close loss in the season opener against Delaware. However, neither team has won a conference game yet in two tries each, leaving both teams as the only two left without a win in Ivy League play this season. That will change Friday night, when the two teams meet at Franklin Field. Who will leave with their first conference win of 2024?

When these teams met in New Haven last year, it was Penn picking up a 27-17 win on the road. Penn’s defense made a major difference, picking up four sacks and and interception. the Quakers outgained the Bulldogs 452 total yards to 245 in that game.

This year, Yale comes in with the highest-scoring offense in the Ivy League. The Bulldogs are averaging 33 points per game. Penn ranks seventh in the conference, averaging 22.8.

Friday’s matchup also features two of the best running backs in the Ivy League. Penn’s Malachi Hosley leads the conference averaging 117 yards per game rushing, and is tied for the conference lead with five rushing touchdowns. Yale’s Josh Pitsenberger ranks third in rushing yards per game averaging 84, and is second in the conference with four rushing touchdowns.
