Advancing to the semifinals, they matched up with Miami, the No. 3 seed. After going up by 15 at the halftime break, they kept their foot on the gas in the second half, winning the half by seven points and the game by 22 points. Ugonna Onyenso scored the team-high 17 points, but it was De Ridder who had a dynamic impact, scoring 16 points with six rebounds and three assists to send Virginia to the championship.

The No. 1-seeded Blue Devils ended the season with a 17-1 conference record, two games in front their opponent. They also finished 30-2 overall, thanks to 22.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game from NPOY candidate Cameron Boozer. In the quarterfinals, Duke’s first game in the tournament ended in a one-point win for the team. Isaiah Evans scored 32 points as Florida State missed a game-winning three that would have sent Duke home in its first game. Regardless, they moved on.

In the semifinal round against No. 5-seeded Clemson, Duke pulled to a 19-point lead at the halftime break but cooled off in the second half, losing the half by seven points but winning the game, 73-61. This time it was Boozer provided the spark that the Duke needed in the moment, pouring in a team-best 24 points with a Duke-high 14 rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes. The winner of this game will win the Atlantic Coast Conference and continue playing in the NCAA Tournament in March.
