Advancing to the semifinals, they matched up with Iowa State, the No. 5 seed and a No. 7 rank in the AP Poll. After going up by six at the halftime break, they came back, winning the second half by eight points to win the game by two points, 82-80. Anthony Dell’Orso scored the team-high 26 points, but it was Jayden Bradley who was the hero of the game, hitting the game-winning step back bucket as time expired to send Arizona on.

The No. 2-seeded Cougars ended the season with a 14-4 conference record, two games behind their opponent, the No. 1 seed. They also finished 28-5 overall, thanks to 16.6 points per game from freshman guard Kingston Flemings. In the quarterfinals, Houston’s first game in the tournament ended in a seven-point win for the team. Fleming’s 17-point outburst pushed Houston past BYU and freshman sensation AJ Dybantsa, 73-66.

In the semifinal round against No. 3-seeded Kansas and Darryn Peterson, Houston pulled to a eight-point lead at the halftime break but piled it on in the second half, winning the half by 14 points and the game, 69-47. Once again, Flemings provided the spark that the Houston needed in the moment, pouring in a team-best 21 points, while fellow freshman Chris Cenac Jr also chipped in 17 points and pulled down a massive 14 rebounds. The winner of this game will win the Big 12 Conference, as Arizona tries to go back-to-back after winning last season.
