Wichita State (18-13), the eighth seed for the American Athletic Conference tournament, lost its regular season finale to fall to 8-10 in conference play. On Thursday, the Shockers face No. 9 seed South Florida (13-18) at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. The Bulls dropped their final four games to finish 6-12, coming out on top of a three-team tiebreaker for ninth place. Wichita State last played in the NCAA tournament in 2021, while South Florida’s last appearance was in 2012. The winner faces top-seeded Memphis in a Friday quarterfinal.

The Shockers dropped their regular season finale to visiting Tulsa, 73-63, on Sunday afternoon. Corey Washington scored 14 points, Harlond Beverly added 11 and Quincy Ballard finished with 13 rebounds. Xavier Bell leads the team with 15.1 points per game, Washington gets 13.4 points per game and Ballard averages 10.0 points and 8.9 boards.

The Bulls couldn’t keep up with then-No. 16 Memphis on Friday night, dropping an 84-68 decision on the road. Jayden Reid led the attack with 20 points, CJ Brown knocked down 11 points and Brandon Stroud snared 13 rebounds. Jamille Reynolds averages team-highs of 12.8 points and 7.6 boards while Reid scores 12.5 points per game.

Wichita State leads the all-time series 10-3 after the teams split road wins this season. South Florida got a 91-72 win on Jan. 6, before Wichita State rebounded for a 75-70 victory on Feb. 9.
