Grand Canyon comes off its first WAC loss of the season to host Abilene Christian on Thursday night in college basketball.

Grand Canyon (11-5) had its five-game winning streak snapped while taking its first Western Athletic Conference loss its last time out. On Thursday night, the Lopes return to Global Credit Union Arena to host Abilene Christian (8-9), which has lost four straight and is off to an 0-2 start in WAC play. Grand Canyon has played in the last two NCAA tournaments and upset Saint Mary’s for its first March Madness win last spring. The Wildcats played in the 2021 NCAA tournament and scored a victory over Texas in the first round.

The Lopes cut a 10-point deficit to just one midway through the second half on Jan. 9 at Utah Valley before a 7-0 run pushed the Wolverines on the way to a 72-64 win. Tyon Grant-Foster finished with 22 points and four blocked shots, while Ray Harrison knocked down 11 points. Grant-Foster scores 13.7 points per game, JaKobe Coles gets 13.5 points a night and Duke Brennan averages 9.7 points and 8.9 rebounds.

The Wildcats got an inside look as time expired but the shot was off the mark in their 66-64 loss at Seattle on Saturday. Quion Williams went for 16 points and Bradyn Hubbard added 13 in the loss. Leonardo Bettiol gets 14.8 points per game, with Williams averaging 14.6 points and 6.0 boards.

Grand Canyon is 6-1 in the all-time series and the teams split a pair of meeting last season, with the Lopes taking a 74-64 win at home on Jan. 11, 2024, and Abilene Christian holding serve at home with a 79-73 triumph on Feb. 24.
