No. 3 seed Maine is a win away from its 1st NCAA tournament as it visits top-seeded Bryant for the America East tourney title.

Maine (20-13) can snap a 78-year NCAA tournament drought on Saturday morning when it visits No. 1 seed Bryant (22-11) at Chace Athletic Center in Smithfield, Rhode Island, in the America East Conference tournament championship game. The Black Bears, the tournament’s third seed, has never played in the Big Dance and entered the conference tournament after a 10-6 regular-season mark. The Bulldogs finished 14-2 en route to securing the regular-season title and last went to the NCAA tournament in 2022.

Maine got to the championship game with a 57-42 semifinal win at No. 2 seed Vermont on Tuesday night, snapping a 30-game losing streak to the Catamounts. AJ Lopez scored 14 points while Kellen Tynes finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots. Lopez leads the team at 14.6 points per game, Quion Burns averages 13.1 points and 6.6 rebounds and Tynes posts 12.9 points and 3.1 steals a night.

Bryant advanced by topping fourth-seeded UAlbany 91-78 at home on Tuesday night. Earl Timberlake and Keyshawn Mitchell dropped 21 points apiece, with Timberlake blocking four shots and Mitchell snaring 13 boards, while Barry Evans finished with 20 poins and six assists. Leading scorer Rafael Pinzon (18.7 points per game) is expected to play Saturday after missing Tuesday’s game with a bout of food poisoning. Timberlake averages 15.5 points and 8.4 rebounds.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-2 in the series with a regular-season sweep, winning at home 81-55 on Jan. 4 and posting an 80-72 road win on March 1. Phil Martelli Jr. is 42-24 in his second season at Bryant while Chris Markwood has a 48-47 mark in his third season leading the Black Bears.
