12th-seeded Davidson takes on No. 13 seed Richmond in the opening game of the A-10 tournament on Wednesday.

Davidson (16-15) finished 6-12 in Atlantic 10 Conference play, earning the No. 12 seed for the conference tournament after closing the regular season with four consecutive losses. On Wednesday, the Wildcats open the A-10 tournament at Capital One Arena in Washington D.C. against 13th-seeded Richmond (10-21), who also comes into the tournament on a four-game losing streak. Davidson last played in the NCAA tournament in 2022, the same year the Spiders last participated in March Madness. Wednesday’s winner advances to face No. 5 seed Saint Louis in a second round matchup on Thursday.

The Wildcats cut an 11-point deficit to two in the second half on Saturday afternoon, but got no closer in a 64-61 loss to visiting St. Bonaventure. Connor Kochera scored 25 points, while Reed Bailey netted 15 in the loss. Bailey averages team-highs of 18.9 points and 6.3 rebounds, with Kochera posting 14.3 points per game.

Richmond fell behind for good with 2:10 remaining in a 64-60 loss to visiting George Mason on Saturday night. B. Artis White led the offense with 16 points, with Mike Walz and Collin Tanner each dropping in 10. Leading scorer DeLonnie Hunt has been out since January with a broken foot, leaving Dusan Neskovic’s 13.7 points per game as the team’s top threat. Walz averages 7.1 points and 5.7 boards.

Davidson is 38-24 in the all-time series after a season sweep that included a 72-66 road win on Jan. 25 and a 71-60 victory at home on Feb. 8. Matt McKillop is 47-48 in his third season leading the Wildcats, while Chris Mooney has a 358-288 mark in his 20th season with the Spiders.
