No. 15 Baylor invades Gampel Pavilion to take on No. 25 UConn in a Big East-Big 12 Battle showcase on Wednesday

No. 15 Baylor (5-2) makes its first-ever trip to Gampel Pavilion on Wednesday night to take on No. 25 UConn (5-3) in a marquee matchup as part of the Big East-Big 12 Battle. The Huskies tumbled 23 spots in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 after a disastrous 0-3 showing at the Maui Invitational while the Bears moved up two spots after winning their lone game last week. UConn is the two-time defending national champion and has played in the last four NCAA tournaments while Baylor has gone dancing each of the last five seasons.

The Bears swamped visiting New Orleans 91-60 on Nov. 27 behind 23 points from Jayden Nunn. Robert O. Wright III went for 18 points while Jeremy Roach posted 17 points and eight assists and Norchad Omier finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Omier averages 15.9 points and 10.4 boards and Roach scores 13.3 points per game.

The Huskies licked their wounds with some home cooking on Saturday, blasting visiting UMES 99-45 without star Alex Karaban, who sat out with a concussion but is expected to play on Wednesday. Liam McNeeley and Jaylin Stewart scored 16 points each while Jayden Ross and Tarris Reed Jr. each posted double-doubles. Ross had 10 points and 10 rebounds while Reed posted 10 and 12. Karaban puts up 15.9 points per game, Solo Ball drops 12.8 points a night and Reed averages 11.1 points and 9.0 boards.

The teams met just once previously, a 96-88 UConn victory at Baylor on Dec. 28, 1965. Scott Drew is 451-246 in his 22nd season leading the Bears, winning the national championship in 2021. Dan Hurley has a 146-61 record in his seventh year with the Huskies.
