Boston College takes a 4-game losing streak to Virginia, which has lost 5 straight, for an ACC matchup on Tuesday

Boston College (9-9) has dropped four straight games and is just 1-6 in Atlantic Coast Conference play. On Tuesday night, someone will end a losing skid as the Eagles visit Virginia (8-10) and on a five-game string of defeats at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers are also 1-6 in ACC play after longtime coach Tony Bennett’s surprise resignation just before the season opened. Virginia was an NCAA tournament team each of the last two seasons while Boston College hasn’t been part of March Madness since 2009 and lost in the second round of last spring’s NIT.

Things went off the rails for the Eagles in the second half on Saturday in an 88-63 loss to visiting No. 3 Duke. BC shot just 32.0% after the break while the Blue Devils knocked down 57.1% of their attempts. Chad Venning scored 19 points and Donald Hand Jr. added 12 in the loss. Hand averages 14.7 points and 6.8 rebounds while Venning gets 12.7 points per game.

It was a cold first half that doomed the Cavaliers in their 81-67 loss at Louisville on Saturday as they hit just 35.5% while digging a double-digit hole. Elijah Saunders finished with 19 points and 10 boards and Isaac McKneely tossed in 10 points. Saunders averages 12.1 points and 5.4 rebounds, with McKneely scoring 11.8 points per game.

Virginia leads the all-time series 21-9 and won both meetings last season, taking a 72-68 road win on Feb. 28 before eliminating Boston College in the ACC tournament quarterfinals with a 66-60 overtime win on March 14. Interim coach Ron Sanchez took over the Cavaliers after Bennett’s resignation while Earl Grant is 58-62 in his fourth year with the Eagles.
