The second semifinal in the CAA Tournament on Monday is between the College of Charleston Cougars and the UNC Wilmington Seahawks.

It took overtime, but third-seeded Charleston (24-8) survived and advanced into the semifinals of the CAA Tournament. They shift focus now to second-seeded UNC Wilmington (25-7) on Monday for the right to play for the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament Championship. The Cougars needed every point and every second to defeat Monmouth (79-78) in an overtime thriller in the quarterfinals. Ante Brzovic led the way with 22 points. Brzovic scored six of the team’s final nine points in regulation, including the game tying layup with 18 seconds to go. The Seahawks had a much smoother quarterfinal experience setting up a semifinal against a team they have already beaten two times this season.

The first time the teams met this season the Seahawks survived a comeback attempt from the Cougars in an 85-83 win. Then, in the second game the Seahawks cruised to an 83-66 win as part of a nine game winning streak.

In that game five Seahawks scored in double-figures, led by a trio with 16 points each. Bo Montgomery (16 points), Harlan Obioha (16 points and 12 rebounds) and Khamari McGriff (16 points off the bench) led the offense in a well-balanced attack. 

This season the Seahawks are 15-2 when they hold opponents to less than 70 points in the regular season and the CAA Tournament. The winner of this game will advance on to play either top-seeded Towson or 12th seeded Delaware in the CAA Tournament Championship Game.
