Chicago State and Loyola-Chicago will officially kick off the 2024-2025 season on Monday night.

Loyola-Chicago will host Chicago State on Monday night in a cross-town rivalry game at Gentile Arena to officially open the 2024-2025 basketball season. The Cougars will compete in the Northeast Conference this season after being an independent team last year. In April, the program hired new coach Scott Spinelli and will look to his guidance to navigate a new conference this year. The team will also look to seniors Cameron Jernigan, Noble Crawford, Dailliss Cox and Alex Raiford as well as graduate student Mike Brown to carry the team. Brown transferred from Florida State while Raiford hails from Northern Oklahoma. Noble Crawford also transferred in from Long Island University and will look to get his chance to be a starter under Coach Spinelli.

The Ramblers will look to repeat as the regular season champions in the Atlantic-10 Conference and add a tournament championship to their repertoire, as well. Last year the team finished with an overall record of 23-10 and a conference record of 15-3. The team had a short run in the A-10 tournament, losing to St. Bonaventure in the first round with a 75-74 overtime loss. The Ramblers made it into the NIT tournament, but fell to Bradley in the first round by a score of 74-62. Loyola played an exhibition match last week against Calumet St. Joseph and earned a big 87-57 win at home. Justin Moore finished the game with 16 points to lead the offense while Miles Rubin and Jalen DeLoach led the team on the boards with nine rebounds.

Loyola and Chicago State have met five times with Loyola emerging victorious each time, the most recent being a 62-53 win last year.
