Colgate and American battle on Sunday afternoon in the Patriot League semifinals

The Colgate Raiders take on the American Eagles on Sunday afternoon in the semifinals of the Patriot League men’s basketball tournament. The Eagles finished the regular season tied with Bucknell for first place in the league standings. They come into Sunday on a two-game winning streak, one of which came against the Raiders on Saturday. They beat them 67-59 and earned a season sweep of the Raiders. The Eagles got 20 points from Matt Rogers in the latest win over the Raiders and he is now averaging 16.8 points per game which is tops on the team. Elijah Stephens and Greg Jones are also averaging in double figures for the Eagles as they are both scoring 10.5 points per game. Lincoln Ball is the team’s top rebounder at 5.9 rebounds per game.

The Raiders come into the semifinals fresh off an 84-55 win over Army in the quarterfinals. The win was just their third in the last six games as they have alternated wins and losses over their last seven.

They used a huge first half against the Black Knights to lead them to win. They outscored them by 23 and then cruised in the second half to get the win.

Jalen Cox scored 20 points in the win and four of the five starters scored in double figures for the Raiders.

Jeff Woodward is the team’s top scorer this year at 14.3 points per game, while Cox and Nicolas Louis-Jacques are also averaging in double figures at 11.8 and 11.6 points per game respectively.
