No. 1-seeded Dayton will take on No. 5-seeded Chattanooga in the second round of the NIT tournament on Saturday morning at McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The No. 1-seeded Flyers are 23-10 overall this season and lost in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship to Saint Joseph’s by five points in overtime. After missing out on the NCAA Tournament’s automatic bid, they accepted a bid to the NIT where they became a top seed. They opened up NIT play against the No. 8-seeded FAU from the American Athletic Conference.

They won that game 86-79 on the back of a 30-point outing from Javon Bennett. He shot 10-for-16 from the floor and 2-for-3 from the free-throw line. Nate Santos, the team’s leading scorer throughout the season, averaging 14.2 points per game, had 15 points and four rebounds, while Enoch Cheeks finished with 12 points and four assists.
The No. 5-seeded Mocs ended their season with a 25-9 record overall and a 15-3 record against teams in the conference. After beating Mercer in the quarterfinals, they lost to Furman by three points in overtime in the semifinals to bow out of their conference tournament and miss out on the SoCon automatic bid.
They opened up NIT play against Middle Tennessee State in the first round and won 109-103 in a game that took three overtime to decide. Bash Wieland led the team in scoring, dropping 31 points on 10-of-19 shooting in the win. Trey Bonham had the team’s only double-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.
