The University of Denver men’s basketball program will begin its final week of the regular season on Thursday when the Pioneers make the trip to Kansas City to face the Jacks. Kansas City leads the all-time series 9-6, including 7-6 since Denver joined Division I in the 1998-99 campaign. Denver is just 1-5 in Kansas City, with that victory coming in the 2021-22 season. DU, who has won each of the last two meetings in the series by a single point, intentionally missed a free throw in the final seconds of regulation, grabbed its own rebound and converted a three-point play off the put-back in Denver’s 69-68 win in Hamilton Gymnasium on Jan. 30.

In Denver’s most recent outing, the Pioneers improved to 12-14 in the all-time series and 12-13 in the Division I era against Oral Roberts thanks to a 71-60 victory at Hamilton Gymnasium. DU also improved to 8-5 against ORU in the Mile High City.

Denver completed the season sweep of Oral Roberts with Wednesday night’s win. It marks the first season since 2018 that the Pioneers have swept the Golden Eagles (the team won all three that season).

Sebastian Akins finished with 15 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Akins finished in double figures for the fifth straight game and the 20^th time in his freshman campaign.

Akins is just the fifth Pioneer to post 15-plus points off the bench in a season opener since Denver rejoined Division I in 1998-99.
