The Blue Devils launched their season last week with an impressive 2-0 start, which featured wins over Texas, 75-60, on Tuesday and Western Carolina, 95-54, on Saturday. In the opener against Texas, Duke overcame early struggles, including trailing at halftime, to surge ahead in the second half, thanks to the sharpshooting from sophomore guard Isaiah Evans, who tallied 23 points.

Against Western Carolina, Duke’s offense exploded for 95 points as Patrick Ngongba II and Cayden Boozer each scored in double figures alongside the team-leading Cameron Boozer. Boozer finished with 25 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Defense and transition play proved critical, with Duke forcing turnovers and finishing at a high rate around the basket.

The Black Knights kicked off their 2025 season with a commanding 73-49 win over SUNY Maritime, extending their winning streak over the Privateers to seven games. Freshman guard Jackson Furman impressed with 17 points off the bench, marking the highest-scoring Army freshman debut in the past decade. Sophomore guard Kevin McCarthy led all scorers with 18 points, including four three-pointers and three steals.

The enjoyment was short-lived as Army went on the road this weekend and fell 83-76 against St. Thomas (MN). Control was lost from the beginning as the Tommies jumped out to a 44-29 lead at the halftime break. Despite the loss, senior forward Jorn Evernson led the team with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting, tied with Jacen Holloway. Furman, once again, finished with double figures, scoring 15 points off the bench.
