The team’s co-star Kon Knueppel had 28 points in the win after both Maliq Brown and Cooper Flagg went down with injuries and missed most of the game. They were both out in the semifinal matchup against North Carolina, where Duke won 74-71 on a UNC lane violation on a potentially game-tying free-throw in the final seconds. Knueppel led the team again in the semis with 17 points.

The No. 2-seeded Cardinals, also the No. 12 ranked team nationally, are 27-6 overall this season and finished 18-2 against teams in the ACC, tied with Clemson. They started their tournament run with a quarterfinal matchup against Stanford that took a game-winning shot at the buzzer from leading scorer Chucky Hepburn to win. They won 75-73, with Terrence Edwards Jr leading the team with 25 points.

They advanced to the semifinals to take on Clemson, in a battle of the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds. Louisville came out on top of that hard-fought contest, with Edwards Jr leading the team again with 21 points and eight rebounds. J’Vonne Hadley also had 20 points and nine rebounds in the win, while four of the five starters ended in double figures.
