Colonial Athletic play will continue on Thursday night with a game between Elon and Drexel in men’s college basketball action.
The Elon Phoenix will take a trip to Philadelphia on Thursday for a Colonial Athletic game against the Drexel Dragons at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. The Dragons are currently in sixth place in the conference standings with a Colonial Athletic record of 2-2 and an overall record of 10-7. On Saturday, the team hosted Towson in a conference matchup, falling in a 93-83 defeat. Yame Butler led the Drexel offense with a 21-point performance while Cole Hargrove and Kobe Magee finished closely behind with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Hargrove led on the boards with eight rebounds. While the game remained close for the majority with 11 score ties and 10 lead changes, the Tigers pulled away at the end and earned a win in Philadelphia.

The Phoenix comes into Thursday’s away game with a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 12-5 which puts the team in third place in the conference standings. Elon experienced its first Colonial Athletic loss last week against William & Mary, but bounced back quickly to beat Campbell on Monday in an 81-68 victory. Sam Sherry and Nick Dom combined for 45 points in the win with Sherry leading the scoring with 23 points. He also pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds to earn a double-double. Matthew Van Komen joined in the rebounds efforts, also with 10 on the day, to add to his seven points.
Drexel and Elon have met a total of 20 times in their history and the Dragons currently hold a 12-8 lead in the all-time series. When the teams met last year, Drexel won handily in an 89-69 win on the road.
