Georgetown puts its 5-game winning streak on the line when it visits giant-killer West Virginia in the Big East-Big 12 Battle on Friday night.
West Virginia (5-2) plays its first game since a third-place finish at the Battle 4 Atlantis last week, where it posted wins over then-No. 3 Gonzaga and then-No. 24 Arizona. On Friday night, the Mountaineers return to the court when Georgetown (7-1) brings its five-game winning streak to the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown for the Big East-Big 12 Battle. West Virginia looks to return to the postseason after a 9-23 campaign under interim coach Josh Eilert last season. The Hoyas were in the 2021 NCAA tournament and were 9-23 last year.

The Mountaineers upset Arizona 83-76 in overtime on Nov. 29 to claim third place in the Bahamas. After Tucker DeVries missed a jumper that would have won the game at the end of regulation, West Virginia regrouped, scoring the first five points in overtime. DeVries finished with 26 points and Toby Okani added 20. Javon Small scores 19.0 points per game, with DeVries posting 14.9 points a night and Amani Hansberry averaging 12.6 points and 7.6 rebounds.
Georgetown blew out visiting UMBC 86-62 on Monday night behind 23 points and three blocked shots from Thomas Sorber. Jayden Epps tossed in 16 points in the win. Sorber averages 15.8 points and 8.9 boards, with Micah Peavy dropping 14.8 points per game.
The Hoyas lead the all-time series 27-26, with the Mountaineers winning the last meeting at Georgetown 80-71 on Dec. 6, 2020. Darien DeVries is in his first year coaching at WVU after six years and three March Madness berths at Drake. Ed Cooley left Providence to take over the Georgetown program last year and is 16-24.
