The No. 11 Gonzaga Bulldogs (7-1) come off their first loss of the season, returning to action on Friday night when they take on the No. 18 Kentucky Wildcats (5-3) in the Music City Madness matchup at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. Kentucky also comes off a loss, falling at home to North Carolina on Tuesday night in the ACC/SEC Challenge. The Bulldogs last played at the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas last week, beating then-No. 8 Alabama and blowing out Maryland before then-No. 7 Michigan dismantled them in the championship game.

The Wildcats tied the game with 36 seconds remaining on sophomore Collin Chandler’s driving layup before North Carolina got a basket with 16 seconds left and held on for a 67-64 win at Rupp Arena on Tuesday night. Neither team led by more than six points in a back-and-forth affair that was tied nine times and featured 14 lead changes. Senior Otega Oweh led Kentucky with 16 points, Chandler added 12 and Florida transfer Denzel Aberdeen dropped 10, with freshman Malachi Moreno grabbing nine rebounds and blocking three shots.

Gonzaga shot just 33.8% while Michigan hit 60.0% of its shots in a 101-61 blowout in Las Vegas on Nov. 26. Grad student Tyon Grant-Foster finished with 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Bulldogs while redshirt junior Braden Huff also scored 14 points before fouling out. Colgate transfer Braeden Smith dished seven assists in 17 minutes of reserve duty while scoring two points.

The Bulldogs were 26-9 last season, losing to Houston in the second round of the NCAA tournament, while Kentucky finished 24-12 with a loss to SEC rival Tennessee in the Sweet Sixteen. The teams are tied 2-2 all-time, with the Wildcats taking a 90-89 overtime victory in Seattle on Dec. 7. Gonzaga is in its final season in the West Coast Conference, which it joined in 1979, before moving to the reconstituted Pac-12 for the 2026-27 season.
