Illinois opens up its Big Ten schedule in college basketball when it visits rival Northwestern on Friday night.

The Illinois Fighting Illini take on the Northwestern Wildcats on Friday night in a Big Ten college basketball battle. The Fighting Illini come into Friday on a three-game winning streak and are 6-1 on the season. Their only loss came on Nov. 20 when they fell to No. 8 Alabama at the C.M. Newton Classic. They struggled to stop the Crimson Tide, as they gave up 100 points, but they have been great in every other game, as they have given up 77 or fewer points in their six wins.

This will be the first game in just over a week, as they haven’t played since beating No. 19 Arkansas, 90-77, last Thursday. Kasparas Jakucionis led the way with 23 points in the win and Tomislav Ivisic added 21 and 10 rebounds. Ivisic is leading the team in both scoring (16.3 points per game) and rebounding (8.9 RPG). Will Riley is second in scoring at 15.4 points per game and Jakucionis is third at 13.6 PPG.

The Wildcats will need to stop the trio if they want to upset the Fighting Illini and pick up their first Big Ten win of the season.

They opened up Big Ten play on Tuesday and went to Iowa, nearly upset the Hawkeyes. They led the Hawkeyes and looked ready to win, but Josh Dix hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds to give Iowa an 80-79 victory.

It was the Wildcats second loss in the last three games and dropped them to 6-3 on the season. All three losses have come by a combined eight points.

Brooks Barnhizer and Nick Martinelli have been great for the Wildcats this season, as they are averaging 20.2 and 20.1 points per game, respectively.
